The Global Alliance for Urban Crises (GAUC) has been calling attention to the increasing frequency of natural and human-induced emergencies in urban areas. In this paper, JIPS together with other members of the Alliance examined ways to tailor humanitarian responses to the urban context by developing shared assessment and profiling tools, promoting joint analysis, and adapting coordination mechanisms.
