“The specific plight and vulnerabilities of internally displaced children tend to disappear among the varied groups considered under that umbrella [of children on the move].” In accordance with General Assembly resolution 72/182 and Human Rights Council resolution 41/15, through this report, the Special Rapporteur on the human rights of IDPs calls for renewed attention on improving the protection of IDP children, with a focus on concrete outcomes.
This, according to the Special Rapporteur, requires not only disaggregation of quantitative data, but also better use of qualitative data, tackling key challenges involved in collecting data from children and adolescents as well as their meaningful engagement in these processes where appropriate and feasible. It furthermore calls for enhanced collaboration between child protection experts and collectors of data.
