Screenshot of report coverWith a focus on the shortcomings, challenges and innovations linked to the process of recognising refugees, this issue also features lessons and good practice emerging from the 2018-20 GP20 Plan of Action for Advancing Prevention, Protection and Solutions for internally displaced persons. It complements previous issues of FMR on the Guiding Principles of Internal Displacement marking their launch in 1998 and their 10th and 20th anniversaries.

In her foreword, Cecilia Jimenez-Damary, the UN Special Rapporteur on the human rights of IDPs, highlights that “with the continuing increase in numbers of IDPs and internal displacement situations in many different countries and contexts around the world, ‘prevent,
protect, resolve’ will continue to be relevant in our shared work to uphold the human rights of IDPs. The GP20 Plan of Action has demonstrated that, with political will, we can achieve more.”

JIPS’ colleagues, Devora Levakova and Margharita Lundkvist Houndoumadi, co-authored contributions on “Using Collaborative Approaches to Improve Internal Displacement Data” and “The Application of the IASC Framework in Somalia and Sudan” respectively.

Stay tuned for translations in Arabic, French and Spanish soon to be made available on FMR’s website.
