A few months after the launch of the Durable Solutions Indicator Library and Analysis Guide – the result of a multi-stakeholder effort to translate the IASC Framework on Durable Solutions to IDPs into measurable indicators – we are excited to see that these tools are being put into action.
But how are different organisations using it to design their own data collection and analysis activities?
We had a chat with Mohammed Shikh Aiyob, Director of Middle East Consulting Solutions (MECS), around the recently published research entitled “Durable Solutions for Internally Displaced Persons in Syria”. The study, supported by the European Regional Development and Protection Programme (RDPP) for Lebanon, Jordan and Iraq, provides interesting insight into this challenging area of work – including push and pull factors impacting on displaced populations within Syria and people’s future plans.
As Mohammed describes, for its implementation, MECS massively relied on the indicator library and analysis guide primarily to shape the analytical framework and central pillars of the study.
“We relied heavily on the Durable Solutions indicators library (and extracted many of the indicators) to guide the design of our analytical framework, which was customised to fit the Syrian context.”

Building on this example (and more to be shared in future blog posts), we are excited to hear more about and share concrete examples of operational partners making use of the indicator library and associated tools. Looking ahead, we are also excited to work with MECS who will be partnering with us for the upcoming fieldwork in 9 of the remaining 19 cities for the Urban-S project.
