On 31 August 2016, JIPS launches Forced Displacement, Go Figure! Shaking the box of Profiling IDP Situations. This publication is a joint effort from JIPS and the Feinstein International Center of Tufts University that calls for an update to the existing international guidance for profiling.
Co-authored by three JIPS Coordinators – William Chemaly, Karen Jacobsen and Natalia Krynsky Baal – Forced Displacement, Go Figure! is based on seven years of JIPS’ operational experience supporting profiling exercises in IDP and refugee contexts globally.
More specifically, the publication highlights the successes of the current Guidance on IDP Profiling published by OCHA and NRC-IDMC in 2008. These include providing its original definition, cementing the centrality of protection into IDP data practice and supporting the role of collaboration as an essential piece of the puzzle. Building upon this and the combined experience of the JIPS team and its wider network, the book highlights eight key points that are in need of revision.
